Eaton Pl, Knightsbridge

Eaton Place, situated less than five minutes’ walk from Buckingham Palace gardens, involved extensive renovation and conversion to a property with listed building status.

On this occasion there was good space that could be transformed, rather than trying to create this space to begin with. The loft was extensive and had great potential, this in conjunction with an already adequate basement, meant that as long as planning restrictions were adhered to, any number of possibilities were available.

To allow for the construction of a kitchen that would run the length of the rear extension, a large steel frame was added to the ground floor during construction of the basement. With a new kitchen in the extension, this freed up the existing kitchen and dining room on the ground floor. A very large open plan living room was created, along with a double size formal sitting room, specifically designed for entertaining and family time respectively.

Having at one time been a carriage house, planning restrictions required us to keep the original wide doors. As detailed in the photos, this was not an issue and if anything enhances the look of the room, making for a light, inviting space; again our design team really showed their worth with this one.

As mentioned, the already extensive loft had enough room to fit two double bedrooms without compromising on space; with clever lighting and design each bedroom benefits from a simulated translucent skylight.
